Online Account Degree Programs
|

Not withstanding high-profile corporate scandals involving accounting firms the demand for accountants has not diminished. As accounting and financial reporting guidelines have become stricter in the United States, the demand for knowledgable, skilled and ethical accountants has increased.
In the U.S., there are three general types of accountants: Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), and Certified Management Accountant (CMA). CPAs provide a large array of services to the public, including accounting, auditing, tax, litigation, and financial advisory services. CIAs usually work in an auditing capacity for employers, and CMAs usually work for employers, but might also serve the public in a more limited manner than CPAs. CPAs are licensed by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). In the UK, Canada and Australia, the Chartered Accountant (CA) is the equivalent to the U.S. CPA.
According to the U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics, on average, accountants and auditors earn nearly $57,000 a year. A higher education degree or certificate is usually required for most job opportunities in accounting.
