In 2006, coaches and scouts with salaries in the 50th percentile made between $17,510-$40,850 annually. The lower 10th percentile made $13,990 or less while those in the upper 10th percentile made $58,890 or more annually.
How many jobs are there?
During 2008, nearly 217,000 scouts and coaches were employed throughout the United States. Coaches and scouts were employed by schools, health clubs, sports leagues, youth leagues, and other organizations.
What is the future outlook for this career?
Increased concern about physical fitness for children and youth will result in more coaching jobs. Job growth for coaches is expected to increase at a greater rate than growth in other industries at least until 2016. Certified teachers will enjoy more opportunities to become high school coaches than those without teaching certificates. Competition is intense for college and professional jobs.
