An associate degree is usually obtained in preparation for higher education or entry level career opportunities. Most associate degree programs have three general areas of focus: general education courses, elective courses and courses oriented towards your major. Many associate degrees can be completed in 2 years or less by attending 4 semesters.
Traditionally, associate degrees are offered by junior colleges, community colleges and select technical colleges. Associate degrees are awarded in both liberal arts and job-specific vocational areas such as technology, design, business and electronics.
